Well-performed although conceited, deliberately perplexing blend of puzzle, satire, and surrealism; hoaxed up with pointless flashbacks within flashbacks and other narrative and graphic gimmicks. Night of the Blood Monster: Lee is fine as Magistrate Jeffrey's who is a vicious judge presiding over "Bloody Assizes" after the Monmouth Revolt opposing Baron James II. Shadow Magic: In what might be hailed Chinese Paradise, the earliest days of China's film industry are depicted in this tale of a travelling Englishman.
