G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - One of The Most Anticipated Movie of 2009.

By Saisha Jones

Have you been a G.I JOE fan all along? Were you anticipating yet another G.I JOE movie with all the action & the adventure?

You will be happy to know that the biggest adventure film of the year is back with a bang. Directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, Van Helsing), G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra stars a hot young cast including Channing Tatum (Public Enemies), Marlon Wayans (Dance Flick), Sienna Miller (Factory Girl), Joseph Gordon-Levitt ((500) Days of Summer), Rachel Nichols ("Alias") and Ray Park (X-Men), as well as veteran actors Dennis Quaid (Vantage Point) and Christopher Eccleston (Gone in Sixty Seconds).

The filming of the movie took place in Downey, California and Prague's Barrandov Studios, and six different companies handled the visual effects. G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a 2009 American live-action film adaptation of the G.I. Joe toy franchise, the story follows two American soldiers, Duke and Ripcord, who join the G.I. Joe Team after being attacked by MARS troops.

The plot of the movie begins with the Scotsman Klan McCullen being accused of selling weaponry to both the Scots and French. The jury brands his face with a white-hot mask in order to humiliate him, rather than executing for treason. In the near future, weapons expert James McCullen (Christopher Eccleston) creates a
nanotechnology-based weapon capable of destroying an entire city. His company MARS sells four warheads to NATO, and the U.S. Army is tasked with delivering the warheads. Duke and Ripcord are rescued by Scarlett (Rachel Nichols), Snake Eyes (Ray Park) and Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) are delivering the warheads when they are ambushed by the Baroness (Sienna Miller), who Duke recognized to be his ex-fiance Ana Lewis. The warheads are taken to The Pit, G.I. Joe's command center in North Africa, and upon arriving rendezvous with General Hawk (Dennis Quaid), the head of the G.I. Joe Team. Hawk takes command of the war-heads and excuses Duke and Ripcord, only to be convinced to have them join his group after Duke reveals that he knows the Baroness.

In a high stakes pursuit of COBRA, an evil international organization threatening to use a technology that could bring the world to its knees, the G.I. Joe team travels the world from the Egyptian desert to the polar ice caps and the streets of Paris armed with the coolest hi-tech gadgets and weapons, including camouflage suits and jaw-dropping accelerator, G.I. JOE is the last line of defense against those intent on world domination.

February 11, 2008 marked the beginning of the filming of this movie in Los Angeles, California. Paramount needed a large stage to get production underway as soon as possible, so the Downey sound-stage was chosen. The first two levels of the Pit were built there, to complement the rest of the building which would be done with special effects. Downey also housed his legitimate weapons factory in an ex-Soviet state; Destro's MARS base in the Arctic, as well as two G.I. Joes manned various submarines interiors, including a SHARC (Submersible High-speed Attack and Reconnaissance Craft).

Six different visual effects companies worked in The Rise of Cobra, the most prominent being Digital Domain, which handled the Paris action, sequences and the opening convoy sequence. For the Eiffel Tower destruction, a special code for depicting how the crumbling metal works was written. To create the digital Eiffel Tower, the technicians had access to the original building plans, and built a digital model so complex that could not fit in a single file. The nanomites used two different proprietary software for their depiction, one by Digital Domain, and another by, which also created tools to generate 3D cloud and sky environments for the aerial scenes. Many scenarios were almost fully developed by computer-generated imagery, such as the landing platform of the Pit, the Cobra ice caverns, and the final underwater battle.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a record-breaking movie with all the latest effects & adventures. G.I JOE was a mass enthralling movie which ruled the box office for years & its sequel is creating a widespread trend all over. - 29968

Learn Guitar Chords - Easy Steps

By Jarvis D. Burris

One of the first things you may do when making an attempt to learn the guitar is to try to learn the guitar chords and the way it all works.

I remember when I first started learning guitar the hardest thing was trying to learn the guitar chords. So what are the easy to learn guitar chords?

The easiest method to learn to play guitar chords is through progression and becoming acquainted with the structure of the chords. It is straightforward to learn to play guitar chords this way and one of the finest techniques to try this is to begin with the E D A D chord structure.

Most people commence with those chords as they seem to be a natural progression from each other and are the simplest of the guitar chords to learn.

One thing you need to be careful of as a beginner guitar player is what has been coined as "lockup" and it is very common when trying to learn guitar chords. "Lockup" is when your fingers and arms become tensed and no matter how hard you try to work through it, they just lockup.

This can be as you try to tackle complicated guitar chords too early and aren't used to the finger movements of the simple to learn guitar chords. So it's an excellent concept to keep it basic to begin with. Otherwise this can only lead to disappointment of not having the ability to play any more guitar.

What is the ii-V-I method?

Well this is a simple to learn how to play guitar chord and should possibly be one of your first chord progressions you learn. When you begin learning the ii-V-I chord you'll know that you are beginning to learn how to play guitar as it really sounds great and strings together well.

Instead of just plucking random sounds from your guitar.

The kind of music most played thru this straightforward to learn to play guitar chord is jazz or rock and what's called satisfied or ecstatic music, the reason is because of the general tune and feeling this chord gives.

The only thing I can recommend when learning an easy to learn guitar chord is to practice and when you are sick and tired, practice some more. Yes this may sound old school, that's because it is, but it is one of the most effective ways to learn guitar chords easy, which will lead to you being able to play the guitar much quicker then expected. - 29968

Bands For Hire - Getting It Right For A Successful Event

By Paul Vincent

There are so many bands for hire today for all your event planning needs. Finding bands for hire is not so hard, you can find them by contacting event organizers, band booking agents, the classified, the yellow pages and by using the online search engines.

Bands do not just play music to make money or to make their living, they play music because it is part of their soul. They have a passion for music. Bands for hire constantly rehearse a variety of music. While playing they get a type of buzz that enhances their sense of achievement, while crowds of fans cheer them on. Many bands use the money they make from gigs to buy new equipment as well as pay for traveling and storage fees.

What sort of bands are for hire? What sort of music do they play? The answer to these two questions in short is a good band will play anything you want. For a wedding for example you will not really want a band who can only play their own original music.

An experienced band will play music that everyone knows. These are usually known as a tribute band or covers band. The music played varies from current pop to classic music, with something to suit everyone's taste.

Regardless, of the type of event you may be hosting, bands for hire generally play for various events such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays as well as corporate functions and other events. Music sets will last somewhere between 90 minutes to 2 hours. They will most likely take a short break half way through the set.

Bands for hire generally have experience in their particular field as well as the ability to interact with your guests. The best bands have their own social networking page or an online website featuring their music in videos, audios and photos.

Remember, good band are happy to share information with you concerning their past gigs and clients so you can get referrals before you hire them. Many will have a nice set list to play. However, if you request a song they do not know they are more than happy to learn how to play it for you and your guests.

Any band for hire needs to know a couple of things before they play at your venue. The most important being is the venue licensed for live music? Does the band have a suitable area to play in? Adequate changing facilities? What is the parking like and where can they unload their heavy equipment?

After you address these requirements, bands for hire are happy to be the live entertainment for your wedding at the location of your choice. - 29968

With The Beatles Remastered

By Harold Donald Quesenberry

With The Beatles (1963) is definitely not not the best Beatles studio album, in fact I think it's arguably their least great non Yellow Submarine album. But that isn't to imply I do not love hearing this early classic in it's new remastered form nor is it to say that With The Beatles does not have any memorable tracks on it because I do and it does.

I do believe that when looking at only the 8 original songs on the record, it is arguably the least inspiring collection of originals John, Paul, George, & Ringo ever released on an album (the underrated Beatles For Sale has a much better selection of eight originals in my opinion) on the other hand, the six covers on With The Beatles are quite nice (superior to the covers on Beatles For Sale, which was their fourth album.)

My most favorite Beatles originals to listen to on the With The Beatles Remastered CDs (stereo and mono) are the first three songs. In particular I've been loving track number two, "All I've Got To Do" in the remastered mono. It sounds delicious.

Another original track that has actually been making an impression on me is track #9, "Hold Me Tight." Paul McCartney wrote and sang lead vocals on this song and he's dismissed it as being an album filler. And while the song is a bit sloppy sounding, I think it has a certain charm.

"Till There Was You" is my favorite cover on the album. It is a very cheesy sickly sweet love song and while I feel I shouldn't like it, I do anyway. The album closer, "Money" is a great way to end the album. When I listen close to the remastered mono version I actually hear the song as much more unhinged than I realized. It rocks pretty darn hard.

In general I prefer the stereo versions when it comes the remastered Beatles box sets but I do think that this album sounds better in mono. - 29968

What Factors To Consider When Buying Cheap Acoustic Guitars

By Steve Murray

One of the reasons for the cost of an instrument being high is due to the material used for making them. Certainly the better quality ones will often have been made using wood. But although there are guitars made out of other materials such as graphite or plastic wood is also used to make cheap acoustic guitars, which will still have the sound you are looking for.

As you will soon discover those guitars which are not made from wood will not have such a full and round sound as you would have expected. Because of this you may find yourself becoming frustrated and choose to give up learning how to play the guitar altogether. So if you can afford to and have sufficient funds you should invest in a wooden one rather than one of the much cheaper types. Yes you can save money on a cheap one but you will find that you will not enjoy playing it as much.

When you start looking for a cheap acoustic guitar, go for one that has a solid wood top rather than one made from plywood. You will find that the solid wood top give a much richer and fuller tone to the sound it makes. Plus if you can afford to then buy a guitar which not only has a solid wood top but a solid wood back and sides as well.

There are plenty of such guitars available and one that should be high on your list to consider is the Seagull S6. Although not cheap it is certainly value for money as you are unlikely to want to buy another acoustic guitar once you have this one. This particular guitar has a solid cedar top and the sides are made from solid mahogany and which is why it makes such a beautiful sound when played. The fact is that this guitar is of such high quality then many professional musicians will keep this guitar even though they may have several more expensive ones as well.

You can expect to pay around $400 to $500 for this guitar, but if you are really serious about learning to play the guitar then it is wise to invest a little extra in the instrument you buy. However, if you search online you may well find that you are actually able to get some really great deals on this guitar if you spend time looking for it.

Along with the Seagull S6 another very good acoustic guitar to consider purchasing and which is costs less is the Yamaha F310. Rather than a solid wood cedar top this has a spruce one instead. But as with the Seagull S6 this guitar has a mahogany back and sides. On average you can expect to pay between $150 and $200 for this particular guitar and is a very common choice for those people who are serious about learning to play the guitar.

But as well as the Yamaha F310 there is also the Epiphone DR-100 which is slightly less in price than the Yamaha. On average you can expect to spend between $120 and $150 on this guitar. Just like the Yamaha this guitar is made using spruce and mahogany woods and is the ideal instrument for those first starting to learn how to play the guitar. However at some point in the future you will need to upgrade this one for something a little better, especially once you become a more accomplished guitarist.

Yes there are plenty of guitars available which will cost you less than $100 but these should be avoided at all costs especially as a guitar for learning with. The quality of the sound that they produce is badly effected because of the materials that they have been constructed from. In many cases you will often find that those who invest money in such guitars will often give up after a few lessons simply because the sound they make is not what they were expecting.

Therefore if you are serious about getting a cheap acoustic guitar for either yourself or someone else then you can not go far wrong with the ones mentioned above. However, if you find that you are still restricted by your budget then take a look at your local guitar or music store to see what second hand ones they have available. The great thing about doing this is that you will be able to try several out in order to find the one that you feel comfortable with. - 29968

Understanding The Differences Between CFL Canadian Football And The NFL

By Ross Everett

Its that time of the year again--Americans are getting ready for football. In a few months NFL teams will be opening training camp and college football teams starting practice. Up north, however, the footballs are already flying as pro football is in full swing up in Canada with the Canadian Football League (CFL).

The CFL is almost as old as the NFL, coming into existence in'30. The league's Grey Cup championship trophy is even older, having been awarded to the best Canadian professional football team since'09. There have been a number of NFL stars who got their start in the CFL including Doug Flutie, Randall Cunningham and Jeff Garcia.

The CFL is very high level professional football, but there are some significant differences between it and the NFL game:

First of all, the football itself is bigger--the CFL ball is larger than its American counterpart. If you know anything about rugby, its roughly the same as a #3 rugby ball meaning it is somewhat longer and fatter than the NFL ball. The CFL field is also longer (110 yards) and wider (65 yards vs. the NFLs 53.5 yards), and the CFL end zones are 20 yards deep as opposed to 10 yards in the NFL. The CFL goal posts are on the goal line, while the NFLs are on the end line at the back of the endzone.

CFL teams are allowed an extra offensive player (a wide receiver), and on defense they're allowed an extra defensive back. This means that 12 players can be on the field at one time as opposed to 11 in the NFL. CFL football also differs in that teams only have three downs to gain ten yards, as opposed to four in US football. The phrase "two and out" is as commonplace in CFL football as is "three and out" in the US game.

There's also a significant difference in the way the game is scored. The first time many US fans see a CFL score update reflecting a 1-0 game they're usually left scratching their head in confusion. CFL teams are able to score a single point, known as a "single" for a kick that lands in the end zone such as a punt or missed field goal.

The rule differences also extend into the front office, where teams are required to have a certain quota of their roster be Canadian born. In an effort to prevent the CFL from becoming an NFL farm system, and to protect the unique identity of Canadian football' of the 40 players on the roster must be natives.

Many US football fans look at the rules that include more players, a wider field, and fewer downs meant to encourage more passing and expect to see a wide open high scoring style of play similar to Arena Football. That's not really how it works out--most games end up with final score totals in the 40's, but the game itself really isn't much more offensively oriented than its American counterpart. The rules may be different, but as in the NFL you need a solid rushing game and a stout defense to win games and championships.

There's also more parity in the CFL than even the NFL, which is famous for the competitive equality of their teams. The reason is fairly simple--football at the high school and college level in Canada simply isn't as competitive as in the US. That means the mandated ratio of native players also serves to facilitate parity within the CFL.

Considering the 21 non- Canadians on the team, its also important to remember that the CFL doesnt get the pick of the litter of American football talent. Certainly those who have the ability are in the NFL, or on an NFL practice or developmental squad. While some players are uniquely suited for the CFL game--former Clemson University QB Nealon Greene, for example, who couldnt make the NFL but has had a lengthy career in Canada--most of the Americans in the CFL are players whose ability just isnt up to NFL levels. Remember Vince McMahon's failed XFL experiment? That gives a good indication of the type of American player that ends up in Canada.

Despite the differences between the CFL and American football, at the end of the day its still high level, professional football. Once you understand the unique aspects of the CFL, it'll become second nature much as NFL viewers quickly assimilate rule changes there.

In the pre-Internet era, it was often difficult for US fans to find information on the CFL. They don't get coverage on ESPN, but they receive extensive attention in the Canadian press. Each CFL city has their own sports media, and the official CFL website also has many resources including previews and statistics. - 29968

The History Of Reno's Mapes Hotel

By Ross Everett

On a cold, gray morning in late January 2000, the historic Mapes Hotel in Reno was imploded by 75 pounds of explosives tucked into the art-deco structures support columns. The controlled demolition came despite years of effort by a number of groups within the community and nationally to preserve the building with lawsuits, redevelopment proposals, and grass roots lobbying efforts.

While the logic and necessity of demolishing the Mapes is very questionable, one thing that is certain is that the hotel was an important part of Northern Nevada history. The Mapes opened in'47 and with it ushered in a new era for casino gambling and the state of Nevada. Despite some historical revisionism that suggests that the modern era began in Las Vegas with Bugsy Siegel's famed Flamingo, the Mapes was actually the first building in America to have a hotel, casino and live entertainment under the same roof. The Mapes attracted countless celebrities who'd make it their home when business brought them to Northern Nevada--this included movie stars like Clark Gable, TV stars like the cast of 'Bonanza' and political power brokers like infamous anti-Communist crusader Joseph McCarthy.

In the 50s and 60s it became, along with Lake Tahoes Cal-Neva Lodge the place to be seen in Northern Nevada. The top floor, window-walled Sky Room showcased performances by the legends: Sinatra, Louis Prima, Mae West, Milton Berle, Sammy Davis, Jr., and the Marx Brothers among others. Subsequent years were not kind to downtown Reno but the Mapes prospered during the 60's and 70's. The hotel finally closed in'82, due more to financial difficulties experienced by the Mapes family caused by one of their other Northern Nevada gaming properties than anything else.

While the last twenty years brought an amazing boom in the population and economy of Southern Nevada, the Northern part of the state didn't see much of it at all. For that reason, the urgency of destroying the Mapes is even more questionable. In the Las Vegas area, its easy to justify the demolition of older hotels with simple economics--the older properties simply can't compete in the current mega-resort dominated marketplace. Furthermore, the insane valuation of the land on which they sit makes it financially unfeasible to preserve them as pop culture museums.

That's not the case in Reno, where vacant land and/or buildings ripe for redevelopment are abundant downtown and in the other casino areas of the city. The official reason that the Mapes had to come down was that the city needed the land to expand its vision for downtown redevelopment. While this is certainly a much needed effort, to suggest that the existence of the Mapes was a barrier is absurd. In fact, many of the proposals rejected by the city would have gone a long way to enhance the revitalization of downtown Reno and included artists lofts, office space and other mixed used properties. Despite receiving a number of viable concepts for the Mapes Building, the City Redevelopment Authority rejected all of them and the Mapes was destined for demolition.

The role of the City Redevelopment Authority was questioned throughout the process. Overlooking the Truckee River, the hotel was on a prime location between the downtown casino area and the riverfront district. A number of sound financial proposals were presented that would preserve the integrity of the structure including condominiums, office space, and perhaps most viable, upscale senior apartments. Oddly, all of these proposals were turned down by the citys Redevelopment Agency which continued to maintain that demolition was the only viable option despite copious evidence to the contrary.

Following the 2000 demolition, the lot remained vacant for over a year until a temporary ice skating rink was hastily constructed the following winter. The property has been improved and the rink is now permanent which, while not in itself a bad use for the land, further calls into question the efficacy of demolishing the structure. It would appear that the city had no clue what to do with the land, but for whatever reason wanted the building brought down. This has led to all sorts of conspiracy theories, from the City Development Agency having financial incentive to raze the hotel to rumors that the building was haunted and was destroyed to keep the Reno area from being overrun with paranormal activity. Whatever the reason for the decision, the city of Reno has lost a beautiful art deco treasure that played a significant part in the economic growth of the state. - 29968

The War For the Holy Grail Has Started! Fate Stay Night is Soon to be Released on DVD

By Maisie C Hart

A lot of people enjoy anime but for some it can be a real bore. However, there are some anime TV series' that are suitable for everyone (within reason) and that has to be said about Fate Stay Night. It's about to be released on DVD - only the first four episodes - and it's likely to be a huge success with young and old. However, there are a few things you should know before you buy the DVD.

Fate Stay Night Video

MVM are releasing the DVD on the 4th of January 2010 and it's going to be quite a bit release. MVM are one of the only companies who release Japanese anime in the UK and they've built quite a good reputation in the last few years. Japanese anime is always good for a laugh but sometimes the story lines can be a bit boring.

Well, Fate Stay Night is certainly not a boring story. I've had the pleasure of watching the first four episodes and without giving too much away; it follows the story of a young master called Shirou who ends up being involved in a massive war of the worlds. It's all about the Holy Grail and the powers that it supposedly possesses.

However, there are other characters who are also in the fight to get their hands on it and Shirou finds himself involved with something much larger than he first thought. It's a great story and there are a lot of action scenes and plenty of exciting plot lines. However, it won't be suitable for children.

It's going to be rated 15 as far as I remember and this means that anyone under this age will have to wait until their birthday roles around. It's certainly a DVD that I'd recommend but as usual with anime, it won't be everyone's cup of tea. Fate Stay Night is certainly one of the best though.

The original story is based on the Japanese visual novel game of the same name and is actually a really intense story that gets you very involved. So, if anime is your scene and you like this sort of thing then this DVD will really get you going. Fate Stay Night isn't for everyone though so beware. - 29968

Cheaponsale.com Reports Trendy Tribe Help Cool The Planet With Low Carbon Life

By Ke Lei

Wang Wei makes sure every day that she unplugs all of the electric appliances in her home when they are not in use.

The move has been inspired by the government's pledge to cut carbon intensity to tackle climate change, said the 31-year-old woman living in Beijing.

The Chinese government unveiled its target last week, ahead of the upcoming climate summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, to trim the amount of carbon dioxide emitted for each unit of gross domestic product by 40 to 45 percent by 2020, compared to the levels in 2005.

"I don't think it is an easy goal without the contribution of every person that lives in the country, so I have decided to do my share," she said.

She has proposed a low carbon life style in her blog, calling more people to avoid using disposable chopsticks, wash clothes by hand, take buses or metros and cut back computer usage.

Actually, the so-called low-carbon life has become trendy and cool in recent years among the generation who are in their 20s and 30s.

They, who have felt the pressure of climate change and pollution caused by emission of greenhouse gases, are reducing use of electricity and water, and curbing unnecessary purchases in an attempt to help cut carbon emission. They are therefore given the name of "the low carbon tribe."

Shi Zhaoyuan has been a member of this tribe for two years.

"The climate is really changing. When I was little, Beijing always saw heavy snows in the winter. The snowfalls then piled up to my knees," said Shi, 24 years old, recalling her memory about Beijing's winter. "Now we can barely see snow here in winter", she said.

"To help deal with the climate change, what I can do is to live in an energy-efficient and environment-friendly way."

In her mind, low carbon life means a thrifty way of living and working. For example, she washes her face and hands with a basin rather than flowing tap water every day and then saves the water to flush the toilet. She also takes a glass wherever she goes to avoid using disposable paper cups.

"My next agenda is to influence people around me. What I do may be trivial, but if everyone tries to live a low carbon life, the result will be really big," she said.

The low carbon tribe is expanding as more and more people stress the Chinese virtue of thrift as a way conducive to the improvement of the country's environment, said Dr. Li Lin, director of Conservation Strategies at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) China.

The low carbon life style means low use of unrenewable fossil fuel and the minimum output of greenhouse gas, according to Li, who said the concept should be integrated into every aspect of life, including food, clothing, housing and transport.

Data from the WWF China showed one day's drive would emit 8.17 kilograms of carbon dioxide. If people use one less watt of electricity, they would help reduce the emission of one kilogram of carbon dioxide.

As of Wednesday, 130,000 college students from more than 100 universities in 16 cities including Beijing and Nanjing had joined a campaign initiated by the WWF China to help cut one kilogram of carbon emission by saving energy during the week ahead of the Copenhagen climate summit, which is scheduled for Dec. 7 to 18.

"I am really excited to see a growing low carbon tribe, and also glad young people are practicing thrift as a way to live their life", Li said.

Zhou Dadi, a researcher at the Energy Research Institute under the National Development and Reform Commission, said it is great that Chinese people have such an enthusiasm toward low carbon life-style, which would help build a low-carbon society.

"The whole society should reach a consensus to reject the extravagant or unsustainable way of consumption", he said.

However, among the 1.3 billion Chinese people, not everyone is able to do what Li and Shi do as some find it difficult to persist and some downplay or even are not aware of the climate issue.

"Nowadays, many girls in China enjoy buying new dresses but they just hang them in the closet and never wear them. That's quite a waste", Shi said.

"Some people are lost in consumerism as they make more money. They want to buy more things, which sometimes are not needed at all," said Guan Shaobo, the marketing manager of the Beijing-based website Mosh.cn, the country's largest online event information provider.

"But it is really hard for people to change their habits overnight. So what is in urgent need now is guidance and promotion by the government through media", he said. "So it is our responsibility to tell people the importance of energy conservation and environmental protection.

"What is going on in the movie '2012' might really happen someday if people keep squandering natural resources," he said.

Climate change is a result of rampant consumption of natural resources, Dr. Li Lin said, noting people should use natural resources to meet their needs instead of extravagant demand. - 29968
