The Beatles In Stereo - Review Of The Remastered Stereo Beatles Box Set

By Henry J. Jamison Jr.

If you already own all of The Beatles albums in stereo on CD already then you may be wondering if it's really worth it to buy them all again because they've been remastered and repackaged in The Beatles In Stereo Box Set.

The Beatles In Mono Box Set's appeal is easy to see. The mono mixes in that box are making their very first appearance on CD and considering that the mono mixes are the ones the band themselves worked so hard on, it seems obvious that every real Beatles fan will want a copy.

Sound quality is the key with The Beatles in Stereo set. While the mixes aren't new, sometimes they sound so much more clear that they might as well be.

One comparison that should help you understand the improvement in sound quality with these remastered CDs is the comparison from VHS to DVD and then from DVD to Blu-Ray. To my ears, this difference is at least as big of a jump as VHS to Blu-Ray is a jump in video quality.

But with music I think sound clarity is even more important than video clarity is to a movie. Why? Because with a movie you can still follow the plot and know what's going on just the same whether or not it's perfectly clear or not. But with music, the added clarity can actually allow you to hear parts in the music that you may have missed when it wasn't as clear.

When listening to The Beatles in Stereo CDs I hear all kinds of little details in their songs that I never heard before, even though I've listened to all of their songs hundreds of times!

The years of waiting has really paid off. They may have taken a long time to do these remasters but when they finally did do them, they did them right.

The sound of the bass and the drums are the biggest improvements with these remastered stereo CDs but they are not the only improvements. Everything really sounds clearer including the vocals. Never before have I been able to hear every voice in the harmonies so clearly before.

There were a lot of potential mistakes that they could have made when doing these remasters. They could have taken part in the "loudness wars." They could have taken out all of the analog ambiance that helps give the music it's "life." They managed to avoid all of the mistakes and really do The Beatles music justice. They've never sounded better before. - 29968
