Get Your Money's Worth with Archos MP3 Players

By Frank Froggatt

Portable media devices for music and videos are all the craze these days, and the Apple iPod is the undeniable leader in terms of marketplace share and unit sales. But that doesn't denote that the iPod is the only competition in town -- not by a long shot. There are many different brands of MP3 players on the marketplace which are quite similar to the Apple in not only the features they provide but also the cost. Take the latest Gen 5 line up of the Archos mp3 players as an example. For the quality and the price of this device it gets my highest vote. I purchased the 80GB 605 Wifi model a few months ago and am absolutely positive that I made the right choice in ditching my iPod.

There are quite a few various characteristics that separate the Archos MP3 players from other brands of players on the marketplace. Just love all of the other MP3 players it plays music, but with the 80 GB of storage that provides I have been able to put every album that I own onto it and still have plenty of room to spare. Many digital file types are supported, including .mp3, .wav, and .wma (protected or not). It is a really nice feature because it means that I don't have to wait around for conversion software in order to download my songs. Features like this make it a much more versatile and convenient player than many other brands.

You get a bunch more than a simple music player with the Gen 5 line up though. The Archos line up of MP3 players has a very high quality 4.3 inch color touchscreen which is very simply turned on with the touch of a finger or stylus that's included. This makes navigation through all of the distinctive menus very easy. The large monitor is also perfect for watching movies, TV shows, or streaming YouTube videos. It yields an amazingly sharp picture that is clearly visible in all kinds of lighting. I only shake my head and feel sorry for people who try to watch movies on the tiny iPod display. Why put yourself through that when the bigger, better Archos MP3 players are available?

What I love most about Archos MP3 players is the way I can handle all of my contents without having to be tied to a PC. Because of the wifi connection, I'm able to download songs, movies, and other videos on the go. In addition, the incorporated Opera web browser makes it simple for me to surf the Internet, check my email, and play games wherever I am -- something that's not possible with most other devices out there. Most of the other brands leave you stuck in the mud when you're not at a laptop and you can't do an update until you are.

If you're earnestly considering the purchase of a portable media player, stand out from the multitude and make the investment into something that's a lot better than the name brand iPod. Instead, I recommend giving Gen 5 Archos MP3 players a try. They are a lot more sophisticated technologically and they have superior prices than all of the rivalry. So be a clever buyer and get the most for your dollar. - 29968
